BT has announced a gradual phase out of older systems starting in 2020 with a complete switch off of its PSTN and ISDN networks proposed for 2025. Why? These lines, despite updates are essentially the same lines originally introduced in the 1800’s. ISDN was introduced in the 1980’s allowing both voice and data services to be delivered simultaneously. Maintenance and running costs are simply too high for continuing use to be viable.
The Ostrich approach adopted by a number of businesses simply won’t wash going forward (in 2017 a quarter of businesses said they were not even aware of looming changes in a TalkTalk Business survey!) What are the options and what is it going to cost? At Comms Connect we believe these questions need addressing sooner rather than later, this blog aims to explain why?
Cost and Purchasing
Firstly, you are unlikely to be able to buy systems that use ISDN and PSTN after 2020. Additionally there are some great reasons to switch now. For businesses large and small VOIP, with its associated free calls offers a potential for cost savings. All those worrying about a huge financial outlay can relax. A cost benefit analysis over a relatively short timescale will prove this.
There is no need for vast amounts of onsite equipment as you only pay for the number of users you need, add more as you need and calls are made through the internet.
Insider tip – with Comms Connect if you switch broadband to us too for at least 3 years we provide all handsets (certain models only) free too.
Unsurprisingly we have already noticed a significant move to VOIP and are always happy to advise those debating a switch over, supplier switch and provide prices.
Set Up & Maintenance
As there is very little equipment required set up is so much faster than a traditional system.
Freedom
You can take your number anywhere you have an internet connection, then add users as the business grows.
Why switching helps my business?
Organisations that have made the switch report more than justifying the cost benefit, additionally they have modern telecoms; future proof for the digital age. Another huge advantage is that updating telecoms significantly reduces the risk of falling victim to costly outages. Telecoms are, after all, the lifeblood of business.
